About the service
The LDS Courier Service enables you to get bulk data delivered to your door.
Managed by our partner Koordinates Ltd on our behalf, the courier service is designed for users who don’t want to max out their internet datacap by downloading huge amounts of data from LDS. It also may suit users who need to access multiple data layers from LDS at one time or entire data layers whose size exceeds the 3GB download limit.
Using the courier service is a paid-for service, but we have kept costs to a minimum. (And you get to keep the media that the data is shipped to you on).
Remember, you can always use LDS web services to get bulk data, use the cropping tool to limit the download to the area you’re interested in, or select fewer layers at one time.
Using the courier service
Now, when the combined file size of the data layers you want to download is more than 3GB, you are given the option of having the data couriered to you.
If you choose to use the courier service, you will be taken through a check out process.
Service pricing
We have kept the pricing of the service as low as possible to make it accessible to those who need to use it.
The price of your order is comprised of a three key costs of operating the service:
- Base fee – handling and cost of media (DVD, thumb/flash drive or hard drive)
- Data cost - estimated data size
- Courier delivery fee – includes packaging

These examples of give you an idea of the approximate price for the delivery of popular datasets via our courier service. (These examples are for NZ delivery and include GST of 15%).

Current limitations of the service
Currently, you can only add layers individually to your cart. For performance reasons, a limit of 50 individual layers is recommended. A dataset compilations feature will be released later this year that will give you an easy way to download and courier logical sets of layers. For example, all Topo50 vector layers, all Hydrographic vector layers, or all Property and Ownership layers.

Our technology partner Koordinates Ltd manages the courier service on our behalf. They are responsible for the end-to-end processing of your order, from downloading the data and cutting it to the media to handling the financial transaction, arranging the courier delivery and managing any returns.
