Taking on more land
In March this year, 7,700 hectares of State Coal Reserve land was transferred by the Ministry of Economic Development to LINZ to administer. This follows two previous transfers of landholdings to LINZ by other government agencies in 2010.
Uncharted territory: new roles in marine & coastal land
LINZ and the Minister for Land Information have a number of new roles and responsibilities under the new Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011.
Overcoming challenges of scale
The subdivision of 200,000 hectares of forestry land provided LINZ with a few challenges of scale in processing the 23 surveys and approximately 1,000 titles, including setting new parameters for Landonline.
Re-launching Women in Spatial network
A breakfast hosted by LINZ saw the New Zealand Women in Spatial network re-launched and provided an opportunity to recognise some of the excellent work being done by women in the spatial industry.
Innovation in action
This November will see Wellington host the spatial industry event of the year – the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Conference.
Geoff Howard 1955–2011
On 9 May, Geoff Howard, LINZ’s Chief Topographer, died suddenly but peacefully. Geoff will be missed by many in the topographic, cartographic and geospatial communities in New Zealand and around the world.
