New Look LINZ Website Launched Today
31 July 2008
A new-look Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) website has been launched today, to provide easier access to information about and held by LINZ.
The site has thousands of pages of information on topics to do with New Zealand’s land and seabed: from geodetic formulae and information on titles; to topographical and hydrographical mapping, and information on Crown property.
Find what you want, when you want it
There are a number of new tools to help you find what you want on the site more quickly, including:
- new Find Out More pages on each section to provide those new to LINZ with some helpful stepping stones into the website’s core content
- a powerful new search engine to help users find information they want, clearly and quickly.
Changes to sections
The most-used area of LINZ’s previous website was geodetic information. Consequently this information has been brought forward and now has a place in the key navigation on the homepage.
A new development on the website is the creation of eight sub-homepages to cater to the website’s distinct audiences. These homepages are:
- charts and hydrographic services
- Crown property
- geodetic system
- maps and topographic services
- overseas investment
- place names and street names
- survey and titles, and
- valuation.
NZTopoOnline has also been updated.
Look and Feel
The website look and feel has been simplified, with larger fonts, less text, more white space and cleaner navigation making it easier to see the information you need.
Keeping it up to date
Advantages of the new website for LINZ, and users, include new content management processes, which mean the site will be easier to keep up to date in the longer term.
Bringing the content up to date was a key reason for the work on the site, in parallel with creating cleaner, clearer navigation.
“Our aim is to make it easier and faster for users to find the information that they need,” says Justine Gilliland, LINZ Manager Strategic Communications. “The site had grown iteratively over the years since it was created. It was time to take a look at the big picture and make the site work more coherently.”
