Public Works Act Standards & Guideline Consultation

This consultation has now closed.

12 June 2009

In late 2006 LINZ began reviewing the existing standards relating to the disposal of Public Works land, gifted land, Treaty settlement land and road stopping activity. This review is now complete and the new standards and guidelines are ready to be consulted on publicly.

The standards and guideline supplement the Public Works Act 1981, and set out matters of compliance for LINZ related activity when public works land is disposed of by a Crown agency; matters relating to treaty settlements and the disposal of Crown-owned land; and matters relating to the stopping and resumption of road.

The existing documents were reviewed in light of LINZ’s approach to intervention, aiming for as little as possible but as much as necessary.

The new documents will replace 13 existing documents in this area. The reason for the reduction in the number of standards is that operational requirements have been removed - the standards cover what needs to be done, not how it should be done.

The period for consultation on the draft standards and guideline will close on 10 July 2009.

The draft standards and guideline in consultation are:

  1. Standard for disposal of land held for a public work: LINZS15000
  2. Guideline for disposal of land held for a public work: LINZG15700
  3. Standard for Treaty Settlement requirements for the disposal of Crown-owned land: 15001
  4. Standard for stopping and resumption of road: LINZS15002
