Policy & Regulatory Group

David Crawford, General Manager of Policy and Regulatory Group

The Policy and Regulatory Group is responsible for establishing and monitoring standards for the geodetic and cadastral survey systems, land title registration, topographic maps, hydrographic charts, Crown property management acquisition and disposal, rating valuation and overseas investment. In addition the group supports the Chief Executive by developing policy advice for the Minister for Land Information on land, seabed and geospatial issues, and undertakes reviews of legislation.

Office of the Surveyor-General

The Office of the Surveyor-General sets standards for the cadastral and geodetic survey systems, national topographic and hydrographic services, and monitors and audits compliance with the standards. The Surveyor-General also has statutory responsibilities for aspects of the electoral system. Registrar-General of Land

The Registrar-General of Land team develops standards and sets an assurance programme for the land rights registration system. The team also provides technical policy advice for land registration matters and administers claims and reviews under the Land Transfer Act 1952. Property Regulatory Group

The Property Regulatory Group is responsible for setting standards and making statutory decisions for rating valuations (see the role of the Valuer-General) and Crown property (under delegation from the Minister for Land Information - Beehive and the LINZ Chief Executive). The Commissioner of Crown Lands exercises rights of ownership and has statutory responsibility for all Crown land (find out about LINZ's Crown property role). The group also offers technical advice on matters relating to their areas of expertise.

Valuers Registration Board

The Regulatory Group also administers the Valuers Registration Board, which sets the professional standards for registered valuers and issues practising certificates.

Land Policy
