Welcome to the Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) property owners homepage. This page is a quick route to LINZ information for you as a New Zealand current or prospective property owner.

LINZ maintains the official, legal copy of your property title. Property titles tell you:

• who currently owns the property
• who has an interest in the property other than the owner (e.g. the bank)
• previous owners dating back many years
• restrictions on the use of the property

LINZ also sets rating valuation standards in the form of published rules, and audits and monitors local authorities (city and district councils) and their valuers to ensure that they meet these standards. This is done to ensure that the rating valuation system is consistent, impartial, independent and fair.

Local councils may use a Valuation Service Provider (VSP) to undertake its valuation services. Contact your local council for your rating valuation. Every separate property in New Zealand must be revalued at least once every three years.
