Frameworks of the Board

The New Zealand Geographic Board has compiled its statutory, policy and operational statements into a comprehensive document known as the Board's Frameworks (pdf 2.30MB).

Its main purpose is to provide information concerning the Board's legal responsibilities, its guiding principles, and administrative processes.

The document also describes the Board's current standards for place naming, which in some cases supplement New Zealand's alignment with international naming practices.

The standards and guidelines within this document have evolved over the Board's long history and have been modified to reflect modern developments and trends. The document is therefore subject to on-going refinement and enhancement as agreed by the Board or altered by legislative change.
