Location: Home > Place Names > Electoral Index to Places & Streets > Search Instructions Instructions on Using the ASP Search FacilityThe data you enter into the boxes is not case sensitive so "abc", "AbC", and "ABC" will all give the same result. To find a name or names, enter as much detail as you know and click "search". If you don't know the full name then just enter the start of the name. The more letters you can enter, the more specific the search. e.g. "trad" will retrieve TRADER STREET, TRADES ROAD AND TRADING PLACE. The data retrieved will be displayed in columns. The name in full is displayed first followed by the local authority it is in. Following that there may be an alternative name in braces "{}" and/or a locality name in parentheses "()". The alternative name denotes that the road is also officially known by that name, this is usually a State Highway number. The locality is there to uniquely identify roads of the same name in the same local authority or to clarify the situation if a particular road crosses a local authority boundary. The locality is usually a suburb or a rural town. After that, the general electorate and lastly the Maori Electorate will be listed. If a road crosses an electorate boundary there will be a definition of where the split occurs. If house numbers have been allocated to the split road, the range of numbers in each combination of electorates and local authority will be listed. If there are no house numbers or there are large gaps in the numbering there will be a text definition describing the position of the split. |
