Landonline Bulk Data Extract

LINZ makes Landonline data available in bulk via Bulk Data Extract (BDE). The Landonline bulk data is typically used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to provide the land parcel framework for agencies that operate property related systems. These are agencies such as local and regional authorities and utility companies.

Landonline BDE includes:

• geodetic data
• cadastral survey data
• cadastral road centreline and street address data
• title data
• Landonline Final DCDB Coordinates.

Users of geodetic data will find it more convenient to source that data from the Geodetic Database, where it is freely available for download.

Most end users will find it more convenient to purchase pre-processed BDE data from Landonline BDE Resellers. These resellers specialise in transforming the data into the formats required by the various geographic information systems, break it up into client's geographic areas and supply it on a medium suitable to the client.

Resellers have the required expertise to cope with:

• the volume of data involved (some 30GB in total)
• the structural complexity of the data (it requires substantive transformation before it can be directly accessed by geographic information systems)
• separate files being supplied for each Landonline table
• the partitioning of data into local datasets (each Landonline table contains the related data for all of New Zealand).

Information on the Authoritative Streets and Places Database (ASP)

For those users receiving the Roads & Addresses Dataset, additional road name data can be obtained from the ASP Database. The following information can viewed or downloaded:

• The Electoral Index to Places and Streets
• ASP Database Documentation (zip file 1.05MB)
• Download ASP database tables, exported as a pipe delimited files (zip file 2.3MB approx).

Information on Meshblocks

Digital Meshblock boundaries are maintained in Landonline on behalf of Statistics New Zealand (SNZ). This data is not available as part of BDE as SNZ has a requirement that the boundaries released to the public are 'as at' specific dates ie to coincide with the release of their annual and census datasets. Ordering Landonline BDE

The LINZ price for each, or any, supply of Landonline BDE has been set at $270 inclusive of GST. This reflects LINZ's cost of dissemination and is in line with Government policy of making Government-held information more readily available.

LINZ will not impose any copyright fees for the use of Landonline BDE. This means that those purchasing this data from LINZ will be able to on-sell it or share it with other parties without the requirement to pay additional copyright fees. However, while the Crown will not impose any charges for the use of its intellectual property, the Crown will still maintain its copyright and require its acknowledgement. This is necessary to protect the authoritative nature of the Crown's data and to reduce the risk of any liability arising from its misuse.

LINZ expects all purchasers to comply with The Privacy Act 1993. The agreement specifically refers to licencees' obligations under that Act, and that licencees must comply with that Act when using LINZ data.

Digital Cadastral Database

The former Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB) was progressively converted to Landonline, Land District by Land District between 2000 and 2002.
