Requests for Pre-allocated Plan Numbers

Surveyors can get pre-allocated plan numbers from LINZ for manually lodged plans. LINZ provides this service to help surveyors and conveyancers who wish to know the survey plan (Cadastral Survey Dataset) number and title references prior to lodging plans and dealings.

Landonline will provide plan numbers for digital survey plans as soon as the surveyor opens the job in the Landonline workspace. For digital plans, there will be no need for any additional application for pre-allocated references.

This page explains how to apply to LINZ for the pre-allocated plan numbers for plans to be lodged in paper form.

How to apply:

When preparing subdivision plans, you can apply for pre-allocated plan and title numbers using the new "Request for Pre-allocated Plan Number" form (pdf 43KB).

You can now:

  • save the form onto your computer
  • complete it electronically
  • print it out, and
  • fax or post the completed form, along with a copy of the draft survey plan, to the local LINZ Processing Centre Manager. The LINZ addresses are on the top of the form.

Where do I get the Request for Pre-allocated Plan Number form?

Follow these easy steps to save the latest version of the Pre-allocation form to your computer:

  • Click on the Pre-allocation form link below to open it (you will need Acrobat Reader V5.0. If you don't have it already, then you can download it for free here).
  • Click on the 'Save a Copy' icon (top-left corner) and save it to a folder you can easily locate on your office computer.

How to complete the Pre-allocation form:

Once the form has been saved onto your PC or network, it can be either printed out blank and completed manually, or completed electronically and printed. You cannot use it by opening it from the LINZ website and typing in details from there.

The form is self-explanatory, but a user guide (pdf 68kb) is available.

Importance of correct information:

Because the information provided on the application form is entered into Landonline, the information supplied must be correct. Please take particular care with the following fields:

  • Survey purpose (for an explanation of these click on Survey Purpose)
  • Type of dataset (compiled, computed or survey)
  • Land District
  • Previous unit plan stage (if applicable)
