Te Puna Korero Whenua Maori - Access to Maori Land Information
Searching for information about Maori land often requires access to a number of databases, pamphlets, internet sites and other resource material held by various agencies. These pages have been created to assist with your research into Maori land information. In addition the pages help you understand how to access information held by LINZ. The Maori Land Court holds the majority of Maori land records (some of which are registered with LINZ). If you are searching for specific Maori land records, we suggest that you contact the Maori Land Court in the first instance.
Where to Look
One of the biggest frustrations when searching for records is not knowing whether to contact the Maori Land Court or LINZ first.
- If the description of the land you are searching contains a Maori Block name as part of the description, then search Te Puni Kokiri's Maori Land Information Base or historic Maori Land Court records first.
- If the description of the land you are searching does not contain a Maori block name then try ringing 0800 Online first.
If you have obtained information from the Maori Land Court and have been referred to LINZ, bring the supporting information with you. |
