Biosecurity Control Programmes
LINZ operates a variety of programmes to control pest plants and animals on the Crown land it administers. Currently LINZ is undertaking major control programmes targeting aquatic and terrestrial weeds, wilding trees and rabbits.
Aquatic weeds
LINZ is actively working to manage invasive aquatic weeds such as hornwort and Lagarosiphon major (oxygen weed) in some New Zealand lakes. more...
Terrestrial weeds & wilding trees
LINZ works with private landowners and other government agencies to target Pinus contorta, gorse, broom, Old Man's Beard, nasella tussock, briar rose and other selected species on LINZ-administered Crown land. LINZ also works to remove pest trees and shrubs using a combination of hand removal and herbicide spraying by ground and air. more...
