Hurunui River Rabbit Control Operation

Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) advises that hand laying of carrot baits containing Sodium fluoroacetate (1080) will occur at three areas in the Hurunui River between 11 June and 4 July 2008.

Description of areas:

Site 1: Up to 150 ha of Crown-administered riverbed adjacent to River Road in the Balmoral Forest, from Station Road to Duns Road.

Site 2: Up to 515 ha of Crown-administered riverbed from the State Highway 7 Road Bridge downstream to an area adjacent Mt Benger.

Site 3: Up to 48 ha of Crown-administered riverbed approximately 3.5km upstream of the Hurunui River mouth.

Please note that hand laying of the toxic baits will be preceded by aerial application of non-toxic baits to ensure against bait shyness. Toxic carrot baits will be dyed green.

This pesticide is poisonous to humans and domestic animals. The area is to be treated with caution until 4 January 2009.
