Waiau River Rabbit Control Operation

Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) advises that aerial and hand laying of carrot baits containing Sodium fluoroacetate (1080) will occur at two areas in the Waiau River between 9 June and 4 July 2008.
Description of areas:
Site 1: Up to 1,800 ha of Crown-administered riverbed from Leslie Hills Road Bridge and an area adjacent Loch Ness on River Road.
Site 2: Up to 700 ha of Crown-administered riverbed from 1.2 km south of the State Highway 70 Bridge to an area adjacent Waiareka Downs.
Please note that aerial and hand laying of the toxic baits will be preceded by aerial application of non-toxic baits to ensure against bait shyness. Toxic carrot baits will be dyed green.
This pesticide is poisonous to humans and domestic animals. The area is to be treated with caution until 4 January 2009.
