Lakeweed spray notice, Lake Karapiro

23 May 2007

Recreational and other users of Lake Karapiro are advised that aquatic weed control will get underway as soon as weather and water conditions permit. Work scheduled to begin on 21 May has not been possible so far this week.

If spraying is not possible this week, contractors will begin the work on the next suitable week day. One to two days are required for the work. Spraying will not take place on weekends or public holidays.

Several locations between Little Waipa Domain and Lake Karapiro Domain are being targeted by the operation. For the safety of the public and contractors undertaking the work, the public are asked not to use the treatment areas while the herbicide is being applied.

As a precautionary measure only, users are also asked not to take drinking or irrigation water from the vicinity of the treatment sites until 24 hours after treatment.

Warning signs have been placed at authorised public boat ramp sites and will be taken down 24 hours after treatment.
