Rotorua Lakes Weed Spraying Notice

Recreational and other users of Lakes Rotoiti, Rotoma, Rotoehu, Tarawera, Rerewhakaaitu and Okataina are advised that the herbicide diquat, in gel form, will be used in the following areas to control lake weed:

Lake Rotoiti – Gisborne Point, Otaramarae, Hauparu Bay, Te Ti Bay, Leary’s Bay

Lake Rotoma – Whangaroa Bay Boat Ramp, Kennedy Bay

Lake Rotoehu – Otautau Bay

Lake Tarawera – Boatshed Bay, The Landing, Stoney Point, Humphries Bay

Lake Rerewhakaaitu – Homestead Arm

Lake Okataina – Main boat ramp, Log Pool Stream

The work is scheduled to begin from Monday 24 November 2008 and may continue intermittently to Friday 19 December 2008, as weather and water conditions permit. Treatment will not take place during weekends or public holidays.

As a precautionary measure only, Land Information New Zealand advises users not to take drinking or irrigation water from the vicinity of the treatment sites until 24 hours after treatment.

Notices will be placed with Radio Bay of Plenty and on LINZ’s website: www.linz.govt.nz 24 hours prior to the planned spray dates. Warning signs will be placed at each treatment site before the herbicide is applied and will be removed 24 hours later.
