Lake Wanaka Weed Spraying Notice

1 May 2009

Diquat Gel applications – Lake Wanaka

Recreational and other users of Lake Wanaka are advised that an aerial lakeweed spray programme to control Lagarosiphon in Lake Wanaka will start in May. Diquat, in gel form, along with an organic tracer dye, will be used in Paddock Bay, Bishops Bay, Glendhu Bay and the main bay of Stevensons Island.

The work is scheduled to be carried out no earlier than 5 May 2008 and may continue intermittently until Monday 30 June 2008, as weather and water conditions permit. At least 24 hours prior to the planned work date notices will be placed with Radio Wanaka and on the website of Land Information New Zealand (LINZ): www.linz.govt.nz. Radio announcements will air on Radio Wanaka every day until the work is completed.

Warning signs will be placed at authorised public boat ramp sites during treatment at Paddock Bay, Bishops Bay, Glendhu Bay and Stevensons Island and will be taken down 24 hours later.

For your own safety and the safety of the contractors undertaking the work, LINZ requests that you do not use Paddock Bay, Bishops Bay, Glendhu Bay and Stevensons Island while the herbicide is being applied.

As a precautionary measure only, LINZ advises users not to take irrigation or drinking water from the treatment areas until 24 hours after treatment.
