Amendments to Crown Property Fees

11 September 2009

Amendments to charges for LINZ services supplied under the Public Works Act 1981, the Land Act 1948 and related legislation take effect from today.

Under these Acts, LINZ is responsible for statutory decision making for transactions involving Crown-owned land, mainly by government agencies and local authorities. This decision making process includes compliance checking and in some cases peer review before a decision is made.

The fees were last set in 2000. New fees, authorised by Cabinet in the Land Information New Zealand (Fees and Charges) Amendment Regulations 2009, will remedy a shortfall between the revenue raised under the previous fee structure and LINZ’s costs in providing these functions.

The total proposed increases of each individual fee range from between $50 and $410 depending on the transaction or decision type.

LINZ consulted with a number of agencies (including the New Zealand Transport Agency, Ministry of Education, Office of Treaty Settlement, Local Government New Zealand and others) and notified major accredited suppliers in the review of its fees.

Under the amended fee structure, fee reductions take effect from today for topographic maps and for bulk topographic and bulk survey and titles data. Read more here.
