Southland Region - Pest Plant Control Programme 2010/11
Public notice: Property owners, recreational and other users of the riverbeds and lakes in the Southland Region listed below are advised that herbicide spraying (glyphosate, triclopyr and picloram, along with added surfactant compounds) is scheduled to be undertaken by helicopter and/or ground application for the control of woody weeds, including gorse, broom, lupin, nodding thistle and old man’s beard. The work to be carried out will commence no earlier than 11 October 2010 and will continue intermittently as weather permits until 30 April 2011. No control works will be carried out on public holidays or weekends which immediately precede or follow public holidays, or during the period from 20 December 2010 to 10 January 2011 inclusive.
The areas involved include:
- Wairaki River around Mt Linton and Wairaki Stations (aerial)
- Mararoa River downstream from Station Bridge to above Key Bridge (ground and aerial)
- Aparima River between Dunrobin and the Mossburn Road Bridge (aerial)
- Mataura River from Cairnard Road Bridge to Fairlight (ground)
- Oreti River – between Windly River and Mossburn (ground and/ or aerial)
- Upukerora – Upstream from Milford Highway Bridge to Coal Pit Flat. (ground)
- Whitestone River – upper sections (ground)
