Removal of Old Survey Beacon

An old survey beacon being removed from Mount Boreas in the Olympic Range, part of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica. The survey beacons are no longer required due to improvements in technology, such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), and pose aesthetic and environmental problems. Several old beacons were removed during LINZ's annual Antarctic work programme in 2008.
