LINZ 2010/11 Geodetic Control & Maintenance Programme
LINZ carries out annual geodetic control surveys to upgrade existing marks and extend control into developing areas. We also maintain survey mark beacons and other mark protection structures on an ongoing basis.
Feedback from the survey profession, other interest groups and members of the public helps us prioritise marks and areas to survey and maintain.
2010/11 geodetic programme
LINZ is currently collecting recommendations about areas and marks requiring additional geodetic control and/or mark maintenance. This year’s programme will again be nationwide, focusing on establishing control in rural areas to support the requirements of the new Rules for Cadastral Survey 2010. There will also be a heavy focus on providing control to support accuracy improvements to Landonline spatial data in rural areas. The control and maintenance work will be tendered towards the middle of 2010.
As part of the 2009/10 control and maintenance programmes we have been able to:
- upgrade approximately 2300 marks to 5b standard
- maintain beacons and protection structures on approximately 350 existing control marks.
Find out about specific areas and marks which have been surveyed and/or maintained as part of the annual programme.
Request for recommendations
LINZ relies on the knowledge of surveyors and others working in local areas to meet the requirements for geodetic control. We would appreciate any information you have about:
- rural areas with poor NZGD2000 control
- developing areas that require increased geodetic control
- areas where there are gaps and inconsistencies within the existing control
- existing 1st-5th order geodetic marks that require physical maintenance.
Please forward any recommendations for marks to be upgraded or maintained, and priority areas for new marks, by 8 March 2010, by:
- emailing customersupport@linz.govt.nz with 'Geodetic Programme recommendations' in the subject line
- posting to Customer Services Geodetic, Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145, or
- faxing to 04 498 3837.
