Keeping up to Date With the SPI Project

14 December 2010

Our spatial parcel improvement (SPI) project has been capturing survey accurate data from existing survey plans to improve the accuracy of the cadastre in high priority areas.

The project’s initial focus is on selected urban and rural areas of intensive use, where the aim is to have 95% of the coordinates in these areas accurate to 2 metres.

Currently, the project team is working in areas around the city of Whangarei, Dargaville, Omaha, Point Wells, Waitakere and Omarama. The area in and around Marsden Point was the first area the team captured and is now complete.

Surveyors and other interested members of the geospatial community can view the progress of the SPI project on this website.

We are using Google Earth and Google Maps technology to enable you to view areas that are currently being worked on as well as proposed areas and completed areas.

Below is a sample image from Google Earth showing the SPI coverage around Whangarei and Marsden Point.

As well as viewing the progress of the project, you can submit areas of interest to LINZ via the online SPI recommendation form.
