What you Told us

14 December 2010

Earlier this year, LINZ conducted some customer research about geodetic products and resources.

Our research partner, Research New Zealand, sent out an online survey in June/July 2010 to more than 2000 customers. Those invited to participate in the research included:

  • Landonline e-survey and TA e-certification customers
  • Geodetic Update recipients
  • GPS suppliers
  • civil engineering companies
  • construction companies
  • primary sector businesses
  • utility companies.

Of the 407 respondents, 60% work in land surveying from sole traders to companies with more than 50 staff, specialist land surveying firms and multi-disciplinary firms.

We found there is significant dependency on geodetic resources – with 63% of respondents advising that more than 75% of their work relied on them. The most-used geodetic resources are horizontal coordinates and physical control marks, and they source of these resources from the LINZ website.

Respondents also told us that LINZ is one of their most important relationships, and that future use of geodetic products and resources is anticipated to increase over the next three years.

We are currently analysing these findings and will develop plans to address the issues you have raised.
