Spatial Parcel Improvement Project
In response to feedback from the wider geospatial sector, LINZ is improving the quality of our digital cadastral survey data. A two-year spatial parcel improvement project will allow LINZ meet the current and future needs of the geospatial community.
We have been preparing for the commencement of this project for the past six months by undertaking extensive analysis of existing digital cadastral data, process and procedure development, software development and customer liaison.
As it will not be possible to upgrade the entire digital cadastre in the two-year project timeframe, the focus is on upgrading areas with the greatest benefit. These areas have initially been determined through analysis of Landonline data and through consultation with user groups, such as the Spatial Industries Business Association. Feedback from surveyors and local authorities has also contributed to the prioritisation.
A dedicated team will spend two years capturing survey data to improve the accuracy of the identified high-priority areas. The project will initially focus on improving the quality of data in urban and intensive-use rural areas with the aim to have 95% of coordinates in the high-priority areas accurate to better than 2 metres. Data will be added to Landonline as it is captured so that benefits can be realised immediately.
If you would like to suggest areas for prioritisation, please contact the Nic Donnelly at the LINZ National Geodetic Office.
