Leadership in Geospatial Information
As the government's authoritative source of advice on land information-related matters, Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is responsible for the leadership of the New Zealand Geospatial Strategy.
Under LINZ's Statement of Intent 2009/2012, the department has committed to two end outcomes relating to this leadership role:
- federated geospatial information
- authoritative land information.
The outcome of federated geospatial information aligns with the goals of the Strategy to make New Zealand's geospatial data available, accessible and able to be shared across all tiers of society.
Under the outcome of authoritative land information, LINZ will work on its own processes, resources and systems for data collection, regulation, maintenance and provision to enable and encourage greater access to LINZ data.
LINZ & the NZGO
The New Zealand Geospatial Office (NZGO) is the coordinating body for implementing the Strategy and reports to the LINZ General Manager of Strategic Development and Support.
The NZGO also reports to the Geospatial Executives Group (GEG) in order to maintain a sectoral approach. The GEG is responsible for governing the implementation of the Strategy, and is chaired by the LINZ Chief Executive.
