Statement of Intent

Our Vision and Purpose

LINZ's Statement of Intent 2008/09 (pdf 572KB) is now available and will come into effect from 1 July 2008.

The Statement of Intent (SOI) presents the department's plans for the next year, and will be updated annually as part of the budget planning process.

The SOI tells the LINZ 'story'. It maps out the outcomes LINZ aims to achieve for New Zealand, the tasks that lie ahead, and how resources will be applied.

Our Vision and Purpose

Vision: LINZ is valued as Government's Centre of Electronic Land Information and Expertise.

Our purpose is to:

• Maintain and build confidence in property rights in land and geographic information, and
• Encourage land information markets to develop and mature.

Our outcomes contribution

The task of meeting government outcomes is broken down into 'End Outcomes' and 'Intermediate Outcomes' - the means to an end, if you like.

End Outcomes

We aim to achieve the following End Outcomes:

• Certainty of property rights
• Availability of land information
• Best use of Crown assets
• Enhanced economic and social transformation through facilitation of connections in land information markets.

Intermediate Outcomes

Four Intermediate Outcomes help us achieve our End Outcomes:

• An effective system for defining and transacting land
• Convenient access to integrated land information
• Effective and efficient management of Crown land and liabilities
• An effective knowledge brokerage capability that proactively seeks opportunities for economic and social transformation.

Achieving our outcomes

The Statement of Intent outlines a summary of the impacts we will make on the End Outcomes listed above, and the capability initiatives - the people, resources, systems and structures - LINZ will employ to deliver our outputs and outcomes.
