13 August 2007
Recreational and other users of Lake Dunstan are advised that the herbicide diquat, in gel form, will be used in the following areas of Lake Dunstan for lakeweed (Lagarosiphon) control: Jacksons, Lowburn Inlet, McNulty's (inlet and boat ramp), Old Cromwell Town and boat ramps, Northburn ski lane, Bendigo boat ramp and approaches, Champagne Gully (ramp and ski lane), Cromwell swimming beach, Bannockburn Inlet, Pisa Inlets (public boat ramp and shoreline) and Annan Inlet.
The work is scheduled to be carried out from 20 August 2007 and may continue intermittently until 28 September 2007, as weather and water conditions permit. The treatment involves application of an organic dye and herbicide by helicopter.
For the safety of the public and contractors, lake users are requested not to use the treatment sites during the herbicide treatment. Warning signs will be placed at authorised public boat ramp sites during treatment and taken down 24 hours later.
As a precautionary measure only, lake users are also advised not to take drinking or irrigation water from the vicinity of the treatment sites until 24 hours after treatment.
