NAVAREA XIV Coordinator
As part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) NAVAREA warnings are promulgated by the Worldwide Navigational Warnings Service (WWNWS) and are concerned with information which ocean-going mariners require for their safe navigation. This includes, in particular, failures of important aids to navigation, as well as information which may require changes to planned navigational routes.
The world is divided into geographical sea areas (NAVAREAs), as shown on the map of areas covered by the NAVAREA radio navigational warning system. Under the WWNWS, New Zealand is the area Co-ordinator for NAVAREA XIV. Warnings are prefixed NAVAREA XIV and numbered consecutively on an annual basis.
LINZ is the NAVAREA XIV Co-ordinator, the authority charged with collecting and issuing long range navigational warnings.
