The Overseas Investment Office is satisfied that the Applicants have business experience and acumen relevant to and are demonstrating financial commitment towards the investment. The Overseas Investment Office is further satisfied that the Applicants are of good character and not the kind of persons referred to in section 7(1) of the Immigration Act 1987.

Background:
Mr van der Werf is the sole director of the company. The company has been established for the purpose of land for dairy farming purposes. Mr van de Werf has been operating a dairy farm operation in Southland on 85.6286 hectares which was granted consent by the Overseas Investment Commission in March 2005 (refer A200510046/D200510044 and A200510047/D200510045).

Rationale for Proposed Investment:
Mr van der Werf sees the acquisition of the relevant land as an opportunity to expand his farming operation and because of the limited opportunities in the Edendale region, he has decided to sell that property. The larger farm will give him greater economies of scale and will enable him to utilize the skills that he has developed to further increase the production on that farm.
