Mr David Barnes was nominated by the New Zealand Federated Mountain Clubs Inc (FMC).
Mr Barnes has been a member of FMC affiliated clubs for 28 years and a member of FMC’s national executive for 9 years.
He was a search and rescue volunteer for 26 years including two terms as District Chair and a mountain safety instructor for 13 years.
An avid tramper and an armchair mountaineer, he has an in-depth knowledge of New Zealand’s back country, its exploration and recreational history, and a keen interest in Antarctic history and exploration.
He currently works as Quality Assurance Manager for the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in Dunedin.
