NZGB Sets Deadline for Proposing Names
The next full meeting of the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB) has been scheduled for 16 September 2009.
The deadline for making proposals to assign, alter, approve or discontinue names is 5 August 2009, which is six weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
This applies to the following:
- geographic features & places in New Zealand & offshore islands
- undersea features
- antarctic features
- Crown protected areas, and
- district & regions.
This deadline allows sufficient time to process proposals, including the undertaking of any required investigation and research. The proposals are sent to NZGB members at least two weeks before the meeting. If the NZGB supports proposed names within New Zealand's territory, the NZGB will then publicly notify proposed names and call for public submissions.
Any proposals received late will not be considered until the next time the NZGB meets, which is approximately every six months.
You can find out more about the NZGB, finding and proposing names, and read previous NZGB decisions.
