Crown Protected Area & Antarctic Place Names Validated

10 June 2009

899 Crown Protected Area names and 1193 Antarctic names were recently validated and made official geographic names by the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa.

The Crown Protected Area names took effect on 22 May 2009 and the Antarctic names on 29 May 2009.

The move validates the sets of place names, all of which are in common usage but which have not previously been gazetted.
