Alternative Naming Decision Provides Certainty
18 December 2009: Media Statement
New Zealand Geographic Board chairperson Dr Don Grant says the Minister for Land Information’s decision to assign alternative names for the city of Wanganui provides certainty to the public.
“The Minister’s expectation that Crown agencies move to the Whanganui form of the name over time is welcomed,” Dr Grant says.
“I think the public can feel satisfied that Te Rūnanga o Tupoho’s proposal went through a robust process, including public consultation, consideration by the Board and by the Minister.”
For more information see the Minister's media release on the Government beehive website and the LINZ website frequently asked questions about the Minister's decision.
