Description & location
Located at west of the entrance to Wellington Harbour (Port Nicholson), topographic map 260-R27, R28 & Pt.Q27-Wellington, GR 641 853. Rising above surrounding rocks at sea level to a height of 7m. On the rock are a marine light and an unbeaconed trig station (geodetic code B0XX, named 'Steeple Rock Light').
Te Aroaro-o-Kupe is the rock where Kupe is said to have injured himself while swimming. The name translates as "the front of Kupe".
