The ‘Town of Wanganui’ was used historically in legal appellations as a Registration District for parcels of land. Therefore, there will be Certificates of Title that include this legal description. Early Māori Land Court Title for Blocks in and around Wanganui, inscribed the spelling as Whanganui for the district.
