Notice of Proposal to Assign or Alter Place Names

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 (“the Act”), the New Zealand Geographic Board hereby gives notice of various proposals to either assign new place names or alter existing place names. The proposed place names are specified in the first column of the Schedule below (“the Schedule”). The geographic feature type that each proposed place name relates to is set out in the second column of the Schedule. The description of the proposed alteration or new name is set out in the third column of the Schedule.

Submissions on proposed new or altered place names may be provided in writing to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geographic Board, care of Land Information New Zealand, PO Box 5501, Wellington 6145, or email: nzgbsubmissions@linz.govt.nz, or fax: 04 4600 112. In accordance with section 17 of the Act, submissions must state with reasons, whether the proposal is supported or objected to, and if an objection is made, then submissions may set out an alternative proposal, or support the existing name, if any. The date by which submissions must be received is provided in the fourth column of the Schedule.

Mount Aitkin Mountain South-western extremity of the South Island, east of Lake Hakapoua and west of Lake Poteriteri, topographic map 260-B46 & B47-Puysegur, height 1189m at GR 465 353. Spelling alteration from Mount Aitken (recorded name). Geodetic mark, coded A0AH, named ‘T MT AITKEN’, and not beaconed, is located at the summit. 19 June 2009

Notice of Approved Recorded Place Name

Pursuant to sections 10(1)(b), 24 and 21(2) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008, the New Zealand Geographic Board hereby gives notice of an approved recorded place name. This is specified in the first column of the Schedule below (the Schedule) and relates to the geographic feature type listed in the second column of the Schedule. The description of the approved recorded name is set out in the third column of the Schedule. The Board’s approval of this recorded name takes effect on 14th May 2009.
