Data entry notes
  • The place name is not case sensitive so "sca", "ScA", and "SCA" will all give the same result.
  • Place names can be abbreviated. The more letters entered, the more specific the search (eg "sca" will retrieve SCANDRETTS BAY, SCARBOROUGH and SCARGILL).
  • Macrons in Māori names are not currently used in this database. Enter place names without macrons (eg Lake Okareka for Lake Ōkareka).

The New Zealand Geographic Board compiles lists of official place names with macrons.
