Find Official Names with Macrons

Macrons (eg Waimangō Point) are included in a number of the official New Zealand and Antarctic names assigned by the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB). The NZGB has compiled the following lists of official names with macrons to assist in mapping, charting, signage, reporting, legislation, or other official documents.

These names have been sourced from the New Zealand Gazetteer of Official Geographic Names (the Gazetteer) that lists all official names. The Gazetteer includes macrons and also provides information on the position and a description of the named feature or place. Note that the New Zealand Place Names Database does not display macrons.

The lists provided below show macrons included in:

• New Zealand names
• Antarctic names
• Treaty settlement names
• DoC Crown Protected Area names.

While every care has been taken to identify all official place names with macrons, there may be errors or omissions in these lists. Contact us with any feedback.
