The New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB) is New Zealand’s national place naming authority. The Minister for Land Information (link to external content below), the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations (link to external below) and the Minister of Conservation (link to external content below) can also make decisions on place names.
