Summary

This standard is effective from Friday 1 August 2008.

• This standard sets out the minimum requirements for verifying identity for the purpose of registering land transactions.
• The legal obligation to verify identity is an essential safeguard against identity fraud in conveyancing transactions.
• A conveyancer may discharge these obligations by personally conducting the identity checks or by delegating these functions to some other trusted person.  In either case, the conveyancer who provides the certification has responsibility for the adequacy of the identity verification.
• This standard aims to ensure that landowners are properly identified to manage the risk of fraud or improper dealing in transactions with land.
