How to Request a Correction to a Land Record
If you identify an error in a title or survey record, you can make a request for LINZ to investigate its correction.
For example:
- incorrect spelling of name(s)
- a memorial incorrectly brought forward from an original document
- a transposed number
- an incorrect appellation or legal description
- missing parcel in spatial.
What actions LINZ takes
LINZ investigates each record correction request to ascertain if the error requires correction.
If the record does require correction, LINZ will make the required change(s) and forward a copy of the corrected land record to you (if requested and available).
Note that if a consent is required from affected parties, LINZ will advise you and the correction process may take longer. In some cases, LINZ will advise customers to contact the relevant law firm to have their correction request actioned.
If the record does not require correction, we will advise you of this in writing.
