Digital Cadastral Database

The former Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB) was progressively converted to Landonline, land district by land district between 2000 and 2002. The DCDB has now been superseded by Landonline and is no longer available as a product. Find out more about Landonline.

Before Landonline was introduced, the DCDB provided the graphical index to survey records. It was an electronic register which contained data on land parcels throughout New Zealand and represented the geographic location, shape, area, and land appellation and street address for each land parcel and the legal definition of roads, road centrelines, railways and hydrographic features. It also contained the definition of statistical meshblocks and derived administration boundaries such as local authorities and electoral districts.

Bulk DCDB data was supplied to distributors, under licence, for an annual licence fee. The distributors in turn charged their clients data processing fees and also collected a "third party" licence fee or royalty on behalf of LINZ.

Before each Land District went live under Landonline, the DCDB for that District was converted and loaded. Maintenance stopped for each District as on these dates:

  • Otago - 30 March 2000
  • Southland - 26 October 2000
  • Canterbury - 23 November 2000
  • Nelson - 29 March 2001
  • Westland - 23 May 2001
  • Marlborough - 30 May 2001
  • Wellington - 7 June 2001
  • Gisborne - 9 August 2001
  • Hawkes Bay - 6 September 2001
  • South Auckland - 10 October 2001
  • Taranaki - 5 December 2001
  • North Auckland - 22 March 2002

More information about the DCDB can be found in the DCDB data characteristics, which describes how the DCDB was set up and structured.
