LINZ has divided its records into the following main record types:

Titles (computer registers)
Records of property ownership (eg freehold title)
Documents
Legal document (eg transfer of ownership, mortgage, lease)
Survey plans
Legal boundaries of properties
Survey field books
Records measurements obtained in the field
Indexes
Includes Landonline, New Zealand's database for land title and survey information
Traverse records
Schedule of survey observations, plus coordinates assigned to each survey mark
Topographic maps
National topographic mapping at 1:50,000 and broader scales
Charts
Specialised nautical charts to aid safe navigation in New Zealand waters and certain areas of Antarctica and the South West Pacifc.

Historic land record types
