Land Record Types
LINZ has divided its records into the following main record types:
- Titles (computer registers)
- Records of property ownership (eg freehold title)
- Documents
- Legal document (eg transfer of ownership, mortgage, lease)
- Survey plans
- Legal boundaries of properties
- Survey field books
- Records measurements obtained in the field
- Indexes
- Includes Landonline, New Zealand's database for land title and survey information
- Traverse records
- Schedule of survey observations, plus coordinates assigned to each survey mark
- Topographic maps
- National topographic mapping at 1:50,000 and broader scales
- Charts
- Specialised nautical charts to aid safe navigation in New Zealand waters and certain areas of Antarctica and the South West Pacifc.
Historic land record types
Some types of land records have been superceded by new record types. Find out how LINZ manages historic land records or more about the following historic land record types:
- Certificates of Title
- Historic record, replaced by computer registers

- Original main record of property ownership before the land titles system
- Crown grants
- Evidence of ownership when the Crown sold land
- Abstracts / lodgement forms

- Chronological records of all the lodgements in the title system.
