Survey Strategic Context - Working Paper One Released

6 April 2009

The LINZ and New Zealand Institute of Surveyors Joint Working Group have met to consider the shape of the future of the cadastral survey industry and have developed the first working paper, Proposal for Tomorrow’s Cadastral Survey Industry (pdf 240KB).

The paper includes:

  • Findings from the views of the working group on the future industry. This is based on international thinking, New Zealand law, regulations and markets, and the submissions to the working group from their first consultation.
  • A proposal for the environment for future cadastral information; what this is based on and how it functions to support land development and administration, and the wider use of land information.
  • The roles of participants within that proposed environment.

A one page summary (pdf 92KB) of the working paper is also available.

Have your say

The working group are now seeking advice and views on this paper. In particular, views are being sought on:

  • What else may shape the future of the cadastral survey industry?
  • What might other important relationships be in the future environment and why would they be important?
  • If all the possible future roles are combined, would this result in a properly functioning industry or is something missing?
  • How does the industry measure up today compared with what this paper proposes for the future?

To share your views, email jointworkinggroup@linz.govt.nz. The timeframe for consideration and feedback on the working paper has been extended to 31 May 2009.

The overall Survey Strategic Context process has also been extended from July to October 2009.
