Records on the Move – Wellington Processing Centre Closing
From November 2009 to January 2010, LINZ is moving most of its historical paper records from its Wellington Processing Centre to Archives New Zealand.
During this time, access to these records will be limited, so LINZ is advising customers to plan their research around the key move periods. You can download a factsheet (PDF 283KB) explaining the availability of records over these periods, and where they will be moved to.
The records moving to Archives New Zealand's Wellington office include historical deeds and indexes for the Wellington and Hawkes Bay regions. Some records such as surveyors' field books and traverse sheets will be retained by LINZ for business purposes and relocated to its Hamilton Processing Centre.
Why the move?
The move is to ensure long-term preservation of the records, ensure public access to the records, and prepare for the closure of LINZ’s Wellington Processing Centre.
The Wellington Processing Centre is the first of three processing centres to close. It will close on Friday, 23 April 2010.
The Auckland and Dunedin processing centres will close early 2011, with the Hamilton and Christchurch processing centres remaining open.
The closure of the Wellington, Dunedin and Auckland processing centres follows the move to electronic lodgement of land transactions, which has led to a significant reduction in manual processing work carried out by the processing centres.
