New Cadastral Survey Rules
New Cadastral Survey Rules came into effect on 24 May 2010. The new Rules were finalised in June 2009 and gazetted on 15 April 2010 after being reviewed to ensure they met the requirements of a changing surveying and regulatory environment.
Public consultation on the proposed Rules began on 15 October 2007 and ended on 1 March 2008. Following consultation, an expert committee made up of survey practitioners, stakeholders, and LINZ staff reviewed the submissions and made recommendations to the Surveyor-General on the shape of the final Rules.
The new Rules for Cadastral Survey 2010 were developed following a principal of ‘optimal regulation,’ which means they provide as much regulation as necessary, but as little as possible, given the level of risk. The new Rules define the minimum standards expected from surveyors, without prescribing how these standards are to be achieved.
Read a copy of the final Rules, and the summary of corrections and amendments. These documents were posted out to all licensed cadastral surveyors.
LINZ customer services staff have worked closely with Landonline customers to prepare them for the changes by sending out regular email updates.
A 2 part interpretation guide to the Rules is available online. Part 1 covers rules 1–7, 13–15 and dispensations and Part 2 covers rules 8–12 relating to cadastral survey datasets (CSDs). The guide will be updated periodically therefore it is important to refer to the LINZ website for the most up-to-date version.
