Records on the Move – Christchurch Processing Centre relocating

29 June 2010

In November 2010, our Christchurch Processing Centre will be relocating to new premises. Prior to this, we will be moving most of the records currently in the Christchurch reading room to Archives New Zealand.

During the main move periods, access to these records will be limited, so LINZ is advising customers to plan their research around the key move periods. You can download a factsheet (PDF 302KB) explaining the availability of records over these periods, and where they will be moved to.

The records moving to Archives New Zealand's Christchurch office will be all Deeds Registers, Roll-plans and most other historical records for Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and Westland.

All Surveyors’ Field books and traverse records for Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough and Westland will be retained by the LINZ Christchurch Processing Centre.

Why the move?

The move is to ensure long-term preservation of the records, ensure public access to the records, and prepare for the relocation of the Christchurch Processing Centre in November 2010.
