NZTopoOnline Faster Viewing Option Now Available

A faster viewing option for NZTopoOnline’s mapping coverage of the New Zealand mainland (NZTM2000 projection) is now available.

The full functionality view is still available and is the only option for all other NZTopoOnline maps.

Faster viewing vs full functionality

The faster viewing option combines all layers of map information into one image. For example, contour lines, geographic names, roads, etc are displayed together. Having only one layer means the viewer loads faster, but it is not possible to separate and display individual layers of map information.

The full functionality option allows users to choose which layers of map information they want to display, but takes longer to do so. Shapefiles for areas selected by users can also be downloaded.

About NZTopoOnline

NZTopoOnline is the internet version of the New Zealand Topographic Database (NZTopo) for viewing seamless coverage of the 1:50,000 scale topographic mapping of New Zealand produced by LINZ for the New Zealand government.

The coverage of NZTopoOnline includes the Chatham Islands.

NZTopoOnline maps can be viewed using the following datum and projections:

• New Zealand Geodetic Datum 2000 (NZGD2000)
• New Zealand Transverse Mercator 2000 (NZTM2000) projection
• New Zealand Map Grid (NZMG1949) projection
• Chatham Islands Transverse Mercator (CITM2000) projection.
