Purchasing NZTopo

NZTopo 1:50,000 scale topographic data in LSLIFF format (find out more in NZTopo technical information - LSLIFF data format) is distributed from LINZ contracted map centre as a complete set. However, if you require individual objects or groupings of like objects in formats other than LSLIFF, we recommend you contact a data distributor.

If you you only want part of the country, you can download small amounts of data as ESRI SHAPE files from NZTopoOnline. Alternatively, data distributors may be able to provide what you need.

LINZ does not provide raster topographic data of 1:50,000 scale mapping. A number of data distributors offer this service.

Cost & delivery

If you purchase the NZTopo data pack you will receive:

  • 1 DVD containing the complete topographic vector data for mainland New Zealand and the Chatham Islands at 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scale.

The cost of the vector data is $84 (incl. GST) per update. This fee reflects the cost of its dissemination.

Data will be supplied upon acceptance of the terms and conditions set out in the LINZ 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 Topographic Vector Data Licence Agreement (pdf 106KB).

The physical implementation of NZTopo data will vary according to the application the data is used for. Each application may use a different structure to carry feature information.

Some transfer formats may not be able to carry all the characteristics of NZTopo.

Version 16 of NZTopo (September 2009) on DVD

Data includes New Zealand mainland (NZTM2000) and Chatham Islands (CITM2000).

Major data changes in Version 16 - September 2009 release of the NZTopo data:

NZTM sheets fully updated are:

  • AY31, AY32, AX32, AZ31, AZ32, BA32, BB32, BK36, BK37, BL36
  • Selective updates have been undertaken on approximately 210 sheets. Updates are primarily to Department of Conservation hut and track information.

To purchase NZTopo in LSLIFF from LINZ:

a) Request a Licence Application Form from the LINZ contracted map centre.

b) Complete and post two copies of the signed Licence Agreement along with the Licence Application Form to:
