The Australia New Zealand Land Information Council (ANZLIC) Metadata Profile (version 1.1) is the recommended e-GIF geospatial metadata standard for use by New Zealand government agencies.
The Australia New Zealand Land Information Council (ANZLIC) Metadata Profile (version 1.1) is the recommended e-GIF geospatial metadata standard for use by New Zealand government agencies. The Profile was endorsed by the State Services Commission in July 2010, following a consultation period which showed support for the Profile from the geospatial community.
Local government and Crown research institutes are also encouraged to use the Profile and private industry is free to use it as well.
The Profile allows for the consistent collection of metadata (or information about data) across New Zealand and Australia. The Profile defines a minimum set of elements that must be collected for spatial datasets and other resources. It also provides the flexibility to capture more information about a dataset or resource in order to meet specific business requirements.
The ANZLIC Profile is based on the international standards ISO 19115:2003 and ISO/TS 19139:2007. It replaced the New Zealand Geospatial Metadata Standard.
The ISO standard, on which the ANZLIC Profile is based, was revised in 2014. It is now published as ISO 19115-1:2014 Geographic Information – Metadata Part 1: Fundamentals. This is also designated as AS/NZS ISO 19115.1:2015 (accessible from Standards New Zealand). ISO/TS 19115-3 Geographic information - Metadata - Part 3: XML schema implementation of metadata fundamentals contains implementation schema. The repository includes transformation schemas that may assist migrations from the ANZLIC Profile to 19115-3 XML schema.
